Reading Lamp

Offset is a lamp designed to fit over the
back of a couch or table to provide
focused light for reading from out the
bottom of the shade and diffuse light for
ambiance out the top.

Close attention was paid to details such as
the cord's path from the fixture down the
armature and away from lamp.  There is a
thin channel cut the length of the arm and
stand for the cord to hide in, still visible,
but purposefully out of the way.  Also, the
stand and base are joined in an
unexpected way, offset to align the shade
and cross of the base.  To provide more
light for the room, the arm pivots 90
degrees to a vertical position.

The prototype is made from walnut and
sandblasted acrylic with steel hardware.
